2024
- 15 March: General Assembly of AVICENN
- 29 February : Response to the survey on nano-agrochemicals launched as part of a study for the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) requested by AVICENN in 2022
- 25 January: Participation in the ‘Research and stakeholders meeting’ day organized by ANSES (link to come)
- 15 January: The topic “Information on nano-enabled textiles”, proposed by AVICENN in 20231in partnership with 5 other European NGOs (BEUC, CIEL, EBB, HCWH, HEJSupport), in response to a call launched by the European Observatory on nanomaterials (EUON), is the subject of a call for declaration of of interest by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), for a study in 2024.
- 12 January: AVICENN’s feeback is sent to the European Commission’ for its consultation on its draft definition of the term “nanomaterial” in Novel Food regulation

- 20 December: Article, by Le Canard Enchaîné, on VeilleNanos’ analysis on the European consultation on the definition of the term ‘nanomaterial’ it the novel food regulation
- 25 November: Participation in Nanos’ agora, participatory meeting on nanosciences organised by the Chaire arts et sciences of École Polytechnique
- 23-24 November : Participation in 1ères annual meeting of the Research group (GdR) NaMasTE 2023 : “Manufactured nanomaterials, Toxicology, Ecotoxicology and Risks : towards a controlled development”
- November 10: Participation in ANSES ‘nanomaterials and health’ dialogue committee
- 29 June : Submission of the ANR project ‘NanoToPhyto’ in partnership with the GdR Namaste as part of the call for projects “Sciences with and for society” (SAPS-RA-RP2 2023)
- June 23: Presentation at the international conference “How the world deals with Materials on the Nanoscale – Responsible Use and Challenges” co-organized by OECD and the German Ministry of the environment
- June 22: Attendance at the restitution for stakeholders of ANSES’ report “Definition of nanomaterials: analysis, challenges and controversies”

- April 27: AVICENN re-sends three study proposals that were not selected in 2022 (Nano and Occupational Health, Textiles and Food contact materials) in response to the new call for study proposals of the European Union Observatory for nanomaterials (EUON)
- Avril 25: Attendance at Frédéric Gaffiot’s talk (INL, Ecole Centrale de Lyon) for the Caf’ Conf’ on nanotechnologies (Lyon)
- April 5: Presentation to the ANSES “nanomaterials and health” dialogue committee
- March 21-22: Participation in the Chemicals Working Group meeting of the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) in Brussels

- March 14: AVICENN sends an open letter to the European Commission, co-signed by 16 other NGOs, about our product tests and the need to inform and protect citizens from the risks related to nanomaterials
- February 15: Presentation at the half-day event organized by the NGO Environmental Coalition on Standards (ECOS): “Unnoticed and ungoverned: How nanomaterials are slipping through the cracks”
- February 10: Presentation of our survey on nanos in everyday products to representatives of the DGPR, DGS, DGT, DGCCRF, DGRI, DGAl, ANSES, ANSM, INRS and INERIS
- January 31: Attendance at conference “Future-proof Approaches for Risk Governance – Lessons Learned from Nanomaterials” organized by NANORIGO, RiskGONE and Gov4Nano (NMBP-13 projects)
- January 17: Presentation to the “Club Pharmaciens” by the Committee for Sustainable Development in Health (C2DS)
- January 13: Questioning of the SGAE on the position of the French authorities concerning the annulment by the European Union General Court of the classification of titanium dioxide as a category 2 carcinogen by inhalation
- January 11: Participation in the seminar “Health-environment: fifteen years of public policies” organized by the High Council for Public Health (HCSP)
2022

Investigation of nanos in everyday products
Result of a 15-month investigation conducted by AVICENN and response to journalists’ requests - December 13th : AVICENN intervention at the day “Nanotechnologies, virage ou mirage ?– Which prevention approaches to limit the risks, organized by the Federation Chemistry-Energy of the CFDT
- November 23: Intervention on the radio station France info about the annulment of the classification of titanium dioxide as carcinogenic by inhalation
- October 18: AVICENN meeting with ANSM about TiO2 and nanos in toothpastes & drugs
- September 30: Selection of AVICENN’s proposal by the European Observatory on Nanomaterials (EUON): our topic “Information on nano-enabled pesticides and fertilizers”, submitted at the end of July in partnership with CIEL, ClientEarth, EEB and HEAL, has been included in the EUON work program
- September 29 : Participation of AVICENN to the LNE technical day “Nanomaterials and cosmetics” (regulatory requirements, exposure assessment, characterization methods)
- August 27 : AVICENN intervention at the 1st Journées d’Été des Savoirs Engagés et Reliés (JESER) organized at ENS Lyon by a national collective of associations involved in the cooperation between research and social movements for the ecological and solidarity transition (Atecopol, Coexiscience, Ecopole, The Simple Questions Factory, Engineers Without Borders, Engaged Engineers Lyon, Klask, La Myne, PiNG, RogueESR, Citizen Sciences)
- July 31, 2022: Avicenn sends four proposals of study topics to the European Observatory for Nanomaterials (EUON) in response to the public call of the EUON:
- Nano-related information on and of workers, in partnership with CFDT and CIEL
- Information on nano-enabled pesticides and fertilizers, in partnership with CIEL, ClientEarth, EEB and HEAL
- Information on nano-enabled food contact materials, in partnership with ChemSec, CIEL, HEAL, Food Packaging Forum and Zero Waste Europe
- Information on nano-enabled textiles, in partnership with BEUC, CIEL, EEB, HCWH and HEJSupport
- July 4, 2022: Response to the Scientific Committee on Health, Environmental and Emerging Risks (Scheer) consultation on its preliminary opinion on the safety of titanium dioxide in toys
- June 28, 2022: Participation in the workshop on the revision of the Cosmetics Regulation organized by the European Commission: intervention on point 3 concerning the definition of the term “nanomaterials
- June 24, 2022: Nano intervention in the framework of the IFSEN environmental health training

- April 28, 2022: AVICENN is quoted in Le Parisien in its article “Quand les nanoparticules planent sur notre alimentation”
- April 25, 2022: AVICENN’s work and recommendations are quoted by the Guardian in its article “Forget microplastics: we may have a much smaller problem”
- March 2022: The High Council of Public Health (HCSP) relays and supports AVICENN’s findings and recommendations in its Global Assessment of the National Health and Environment Plans (2004-2019)
- March 23, 2022: Participation in the workshop “Stay, Resist, Desert, Weed” organized by Atecopol, the Lyon Science Boutique, Ecopolien, La Fabrique des Questions Simples, Ingénieurs sans frontières, Klask, and Sciences Citoyennes, on the question of the meaning to be given to the professions of research and engineering in the face of the profound social and environmental upheavals that our societies are going through.
- March 18, 2022: General Assembly of AVICENN
- February 8, 2022: Avicenn with 14 other NGOs, sends an open letter to the European Commission asking for clarification and improvement of its definition of the term “nanomaterials” (an initiative relayed by Chemical Watch)
- January 21, 2022: Nano intervention in the framework of the IFSEN environmental health training
- January 14, 2022: Presentation of our testing approach to the stakeholders involved in the PNSE 4 monitoring group led by the Ministry of Ecological Transition (ministries, health agencies, professional federations, NGOs, etc.)

- December 22, 2021: Release of the Kali magazine dedicated to nanoparticles, produced with the help of AVICENN
- November 30, 2021: Meeting with the cabinet of the Minister of Ecological Transition Barbara Pompili
- October 20, 2021: Participation in the 12th meeting of the ANSES “nano and health” dialogue committee
- October 18, 2021 : AVICENN sends a letter to the French Minister of Ecological Transition, Barbara Pompili, in order to capitalize on the French presidency of the European Union to intensify transparency and vigilance on nanomaterials and associated risks
- October 6, 2021: Participation in the session “Changing public perception on nanomaterials” of the ECHA “Safer Chemicals” conference
- June 30, 2021: AVICENN sends its contribution to the European consultation on the definition of the term “nanomaterial”
- June 26, 2021: Intervention within the framework of the Environmental Health Training of the IFSEN
- May 20, 2021: Participation in the “Scientific meeting on microplastics and nanomaterials” organized online by ANSES and ANR
- 10 May 2021: Hearing by the High Council for Public Health (HCSP) as part of its evaluation of the actions of the first 3 PNSE concerning “risks treated as emerging risks”.
- 29 April 2021: Participation in the webinar “Nanomaterial regulation – a driver or barrier for nanotechnology innovation?” organized by Mistra Environmental Nanosafety (Lund University)
- March 26, 2021: General Assembly of AVICENN
- March 19, 2021: Intervention within the framework of the Environmental Health Training of the IFSEN
- January 20, 2021: AVICENN along with twelve other NGOs, sends an open letter to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) requesting clarification on the regulatory framework and risk management measures in place at the European level on the monitoring of anti-covid-19 nano products.
2020
- December 17, 2020: Avicenn intervened in a training session “Nanoparticles: What are the risks for health and environment?” for the Departmental Committee for Health Education of Vaucluse(CoDES 84)
- December 9, 2020: Avicenn posted its contribution to the consultation on the draft PNSE 4 of the Ministries of Solidarity and Health and of Ecological Transition, whose Action 12 aims to “better managing the risks associated with nanomaterials in a context of uncertainty” the proposed measures are largely in line with the 20 proposals from civil society compiled by Avicenn in June 2019.
- December 1, 2020: Avicenn participated to the 11th ANSES nano dialogue committee (in video)
- July 9, 2020: Avicenn sent a registered letter to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Solidarity and Health to demand the release of the government report on nanomaterials in drugs and medical devices. This report should have been made public three years ago now, according to our 2016 health care modernization law. Read more here.
- June 25, 2020: Avicenn conducted a videoconference intervention for the Institute of Environmental Health Training (IFSEN) (module 6: noise, nanotechnologies and waste).
- 19 June 2020: Avicenn submitted a contribution to the consultation on the roadmap of the new sustainable chemicals strategy (“Chemical strategy for sustainability”) of the European Commission. Among the measures recommended: 1 – create a tailor-made regulation for nanomaterials; 2 – ensure the effective registration of nanomaterials; 3 – improve information on the presence of nanomaterials in products and on the associated risks; 4 – promote independent research on the risks associated with nanomaterials through a fund financed by the companies that import, produce or use these nanomaterials
- June 9, 2020: participation in the 10th ANSES nano dialogue committee (organized by Skype)
- March 24, 2020: General Assembly of AVICENN

- December 19, 2019 : intervention of AVICENN at the conference “nanomaterials” organized by the Direccte and the DREAL of Pays de la Loire in Nantes
- December 3, 2019: participation of Avicenn to the “Additives, nanoparticles and food” day organized by LNE in Gentilly
- November 28, 2019 : AVICENN intervention at a day on nanoparticles and health at work organized by the CFDT Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes within the framework “Industrial risks and health at work”
- November 19, 2019: Nanoparticles in food are on the menu of “A bon entendeur”, the Swiss consumer reference program, entitled tonight:“E171, E551… will you have a few more additives?“. Among the organizations interviewed in France: LNE, INRA Toulouse, Agir pour l’Environnement and AVICENN
