Titanium dioxide: Renewal of the suspension in food in France

31/12/2021
On December 21, 2021, the order suspending the placing on the market of foods containing the additive E 171 (titanium dioxide – TiO2) was published in the French Official Journal No. 304.
Pending the Commission regulation banning the use of this additive at the European level (during 2022) and in order to ensure that no new
foodstuffs containing E171 are placed on the French market, this order renews the suspension of this additive already in force since 2020 in France. However, it is “banned from French food products but still present in medicines” as pointed out by the Midi libre, other media and NGOs.
