Nanomaterials and occupational health: two synthesis reports published
Researchers from different French organizations have written a synthesis report pre-published in the Archives of Occupational and Environmental Diseases, entitled “Engineered nanomaterials in the workplace: an overview of the state of the art”. It reminds us that “health monitoring is essential to provide evidence regarding the health risks of workers exposed to nanomaterials as well as to indirectly evaluate the prevention measures adopted by employers”. It concludes that, “in a context of scientific uncertainty and poorly characterized occupational exposures, a series of preventive actions is necessary and urgent to implement”.
A few days earlier, INRS also published a brochure entitled “Manufactured nanomaterials – Definitions, health effects, characterization of occupational exposure and prevention measures”. This report provides an update on the characteristics and applications of manufactured nanomaterials, current toxicological knowledge, tools for characterizing occupational exposure and means of prevention.
