“Better manage the health and environmental risks of nanomaterials”: this is the title of action 13 of the 4th National Health and Environment Plan (PNSE 4), which has just been published by the government. This “action” is divided into 5 parts and includes many recommendations from civil society:

  1. Support the adoption of an harmonized definition of nanomaterials at the European level
  2. Improve knowledge on the use of nanomaterials
  3. Improve knowledge of the health and environmental risks associated with nanomaterials
  4. Improve compliance with obligations regarding the presence of nanomaterials in everyday objects and extend labelling obligations to additional sectors
  5. Regulate nanomaterials that do not have a strong utility and may present risks.

We would have liked to see actions about awareness and information for the general public, exposed workers and residents, as well as vulnerable people. Efforts in this direction must be continued.
